The 15-member India squad for the Test series and the West Indies was earlier announced on Thursday, September 25. Notable names like Ishan Kishan, Sarfaraz Khan, and Shardul Thakur were missing. Chief Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar opened up about why the names were missing from the squad.
Notably, Sarfaraz last featured for India in Tests during the home Test series against New Zealand last year. While Kishan has not been contention for selection for over one year. With Rishabh Pant out injured, it was expected that the southpaw would get the nod due to his recent good form in the County circuit. However, the Agarkar-led panel went with Dhruv Jurel and Narayan Jagadeesan instead.

Agarkar has revealed the reasons behind the Jharkhand keeper-batter and Mumbai batter's exclusion from the West Indies Test series.
"When we picked India A, Ishan Kishan wasn't fit. Jagadeeshan was part of the squad when Ishan wasn't fit. Ishan will have to play a bit more cricket and show some performances," Agarkar said.

Sarfaraz Khan is down with an injury
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz, who was expected to get the selection nod due to the lack of runs from Karun Nair is misses out due to injury. Agarkar has confirmed that the batter is having a niggle and is not fit enough to participate in the upcoming two-match Test series against the Caribbean. Recently, the 27-year-old went through a physical transformation; however, his exclusion was not related to physical condition.
